https://www.thinglink.com/scene/1189481867481448450 Hello everyone. Today I created a small Thinglink which you can access from the link above this text. If you examine the picture, you'll notice red circles around some tiny circles of pluses and a music note. These are the specialty of Thinglink. If you hover your mouse over these small icons, you will encounter some pop-ups on the picture containing various stuff, ranging from texts to videos to links to gifs and pictures. In my Thinglink, I used a picture of a video game character called Nami, and put up three of those. One of them gives a very brief abstract of her biography, another bubble gives information about her ingame abilities. The music note opens a youtube link to the music of our Nami. Since our new generation of learners are technologically native, research and feedbacks has been showing about how children love interactive items. Thinglink created a perfect tool to utilize this, as you can make various ty

Video Games - Are they bad? Can they be used in education?

Resim
Hello everyone. For this post, I'd like to talk about a topic that has been widely discussed and is still being discussed by countless people on the world. Are video games a bad influence on our youth? Are they entirely a waste of time? To start off, I'd like to give my personal experience over the years about video games. Video games have been a major impact into my life, as I'm currently 20 years old and a vast majority of my time alive on this planet has been on the computer playing video games. In fact, I owe it to video games that I am able to write this entire paragraph in English here, right now. Its how I am studying English teaching. Since English is now a global language, it is no wonder video games are also in English, and young me had been constantly exposed to English vocabulary throughout the years. I have been constantly learning and experiencing new words, and communicating with English speakers. I won't go into too much detail, but overall it

QR Code Activities

Resim
What you see above is a QR code. You all already know of this I'm sure, as they have become quite popular in the recent decade or so. You will find them on all sorts of places such as packages, advertisements, notices, essentially everywhere you can clearly see and where they want it to be seen. Their purposes can be for all sorts of stuff as always. When you see one on a package, it's usually for a contest where you can win stuff. If its on a notice, its probably going to lead you into an information website about whatever it is trying to grab attention for, or it could lead you into a volunteering form for an event. The QR code in the picture is one I made for this post. It leads to my game profile because I wanted to post this as an example, but regardless of what I made we can talk about the appliances of QR code into education. One simple and probably already commonly known idea is to use QR codes to lead students into links and websites the teacher wants them to vi

Second Life in Education and My Opinion Over It

Resim
Before I begin this paragraph I'd like to state that I couldn't for the life of me find the IU Campus to take the selfie. This game is horrible and confusing. Hello everyone. Today, I gave a chance to Second Life as a means of education. I created an account, logged in and wandered around. I will be talking about my experience with this game, and give my opinion about everything I've seen. First of all, the game performance is extremely poor. From the moment I've logged into this game I cannot for the life of me get anything above 30 FPS, and my computer is relatively strong with 8 GB ram, Intel i7 processor with GTX 1050 graphics card, I am able to run high end games with little to no problems. The overall visuals, movement, animation, the UI, essentially the general experience was horrendous. There was an incredible input lag where my character started to move 5 seconds after I give a command. The UI is weird and confusing, and the map is as buggy as the body o

Pixton

Resim
Hello everyone. Today I used a website called Pixton. This website allows you to create lovely comics featuring you as a teacher and your students. When you first login to the website, you are asked to create your avatar to appear in the classrooms and comics. As you can see in the picture above, I created my avatar as similar as I could. I personally find everything about this website adorable and cute. Every character, facial expressions, the style and all are very nicely done. Everything is very high quality and cartoonish to catch the eye of young learners, but even as an adult I absolutely love it. As a teacher, I find this website to be an amazing instrument to truly make students feel involved in school, classroom and create a friendly, almost family type atmosphere in the classroom. Instead of looking at boring, random names and pictures found on google strapped on the books, the students can see themselves in the scenarios.

Quizlet

Hello everyone, I made a nice little activity in Quizlet which can be accessed from this link:  https://quizlet.com/_6qnivt I heard about Quizlet for the first time recently and I'm rather impressed with it. I absolutely love the UI(User Interface), how smooth the general appearence and the animations of everything. The entire website is sleek and smooth, with no problems. The Quizlet I made is a small one that consists of just 5 cards, I used English idioms as a topic and put together 5 different idioms that people commonly use. Students can try to guess their meaning and simply click on the card to reveal the correct answer. What I created was really simple, but its to just show what it can do. Quizlet has immense potential for teachers who can take it. You can create all sorts of question type stuff to invoke the thought process of students and have them work their way around the words to guess their meaning.

Canva

Hello everyone. Today I tried to use Canva but failed horribly, but failure is the first step to success! Despite me not performing good enough I can personally see the potential this tool has for teachers and students. As far as I can see it you are able to create presentation type stuff to show. As a teacher, you can use this in a variety of ways in the class, but I personally have an idea that should be especially great for young learners. You can create a colorful page full of the achievements of your students, or a group photo of them to boost their morale and their will to learn.
